Hajj and Umrah health planning

Prepare your health questions, vaccination records and documents for a pilgrimage consultation at Priceline Pharmacy Sunshine Marketplace. A vaccine appointment does not establish fitness to travel or permission to enter Saudi Arabia.

Official sources checked: . Requirements and travel advice can change.

Use the rules for your pilgrimage and season

The Saudi Ministry of Health publishes separate Hajj and Umrah documents. The versions linked when this page was checked are labelled 1447H (2026). They are a dated reference, not confirmation of requirements for Hajj 2027 or a later Umrah journey. Recheck the Ministry’s current requirements page and ask your authorised travel organiser about permits and administrative documents.

Hajj: 2026 reference

The document requires meningococcal vaccination covering A, C, W and Y. It accepts a quadrivalent ACYW or pentavalent ACYWX conjugate vaccine given within five years, or an ACYW polysaccharide vaccine within three years. Vaccination must be at least ten days before arrival.

Hajj also has health-capability criteria and COVID-19 evidence requirements for specified groups. A clinician must review the applicable criteria, particularly with pregnancy, serious chronic illness or treatment affecting immunity. This page cannot provide a fitness certificate.

Umrah: 2026 reference

The Umrah document also requires vaccination covering A, C, W and Y for pilgrims from all countries, with the same five-year conjugate or three-year polysaccharide validity and ten-day minimum before arrival.

Its section requiring a meningococcal certificate names a specific country list. Do not confuse that list with the broader vaccination requirement. It also sets COVID-19 evidence requirements for specified risk groups. Confirm the documents applicable to your itinerary with the current Saudi guidance and travel provider.

Additional polio and yellow fever rules depend on the countries from which travellers arrive. Tell the clinician about every country visited and transit stop, not only your Australian departure airport. The current country lists and any additional public-health measures must be checked for the actual journey.

Bring records, not just a remembered vaccine name

Bring your vaccination certificates and an Australian Immunisation Register statement, along with overseas records. An old vaccination may still be relevant; do not assume you need another dose simply because you are travelling again. Let the clinician check the product, dates and circumstances.

The 2026 Saudi documents ask for the vaccine name and administration date to be clear on the meningococcal certificate. If the vaccine type is not stated, they limit its validity to three years. Ask the vaccination provider to check that the record is complete and legible. An AIR statement does not automatically replace every certificate an authority or airline may request.

Make a document folder with your passport details, itinerary and existing certificates. Keep an accessible copy for your own use and ask which originals you must carry. Do not send passport numbers, certificates or medical histories through a general website enquiry; ask the pharmacy how to provide them securely.

Make the consultation specific to you

Seek advice six to eight weeks before a possible departure where practicable. Some courses need several visits or time to take effect. If departure is closer, still seek advice: a shorter timeframe does not remove the need for assessment or override an entry deadline.

A travel assessment considers routine vaccinations as well as pilgrimage requirements. Age, pregnancy, medicines, previous reactions, underlying conditions and the full itinerary can change the plan. There is no universal vaccine package for every pilgrim. Bring a list of questions and tell the clinician about other appointments or vaccinations already arranged.

  • Journey: Hajj or Umrah, proposed dates, transit countries, other visits and travel-organiser instructions.
  • Records: previous vaccine names and dates, relevant certificates and any written advice already received.
  • Support: mobility or communication needs, who is travelling with you, and your preferred language for the discussion.
  • Next steps: which services the pharmacy can provide, any referral, costs, follow-up visits and documentation.

The Sunshine pharmacy participates in Victoria’s Community Pharmacist Program for travel vaccination. The pharmacist confirms clinical suitability, service scope and availability individually. Ask for the total cost before agreeing to treatment; funding and private fees are explained separately. A booking is a request for an assessment, not a guarantee that every required vaccine or certificate can be provided here.

Plan for health beyond vaccinations

Vaccination addresses only some travel risks. Discuss crowd exposure, food and water precautions, insect bites and access to care. Hand hygiene, safe drinking water and avoiding undercooked food remain useful even after vaccination. Ask for advice suited to your accommodation and activities rather than relying on a country checklist alone.

Discuss heat and physical demands with your treating clinician. Ask how to manage regular medicines and any storage needs during delays or hot weather; do not change a prescribed medicine yourself. Bring an up-to-date medicine list to the appointment. Check medicine-import rules and insurance cover through the official travel advice, especially while a do-not-travel advisory is in place.

Before an eventual trip, agree how to seek care if you become unwell, who to contact, and what information to carry. If illness develops during or after travel, tell the treating clinician where you have been and when. This page is general preparation information and cannot assess symptoms or replace urgent medical care.

Common questions

Can you confirm the Hajj 2027 requirements?

Not from the 2026 documents linked here. Check the Ministry’s latest release and your authorised organiser before relying on a vaccine deadline, certificate rule or health criterion for 2027.

Can I use Google Translate for this page?

Yes, use Translate in the site menu. Machine translation may change medical meaning. Confirm important instructions directly with your clinician and use the Ministry’s official English or Arabic documents when checking requirements. Ask about interpreter arrangements if you need support.
