Your plan

Four steps from arrival to up-to-date

The most efficient path for most newly arrived adults and families.

  1. 1

Apply for your IHI (if you don't have Medicare)

An Individual Healthcare Identifier is what links your vaccinations to the national record. Free, takes ~5 working days. Phone Services Australia on 1300 361 457, apply via myGov, or visit Sunshine or Footscray Services Australia centres in person. Bring your passport and visa.

  2. 2

Download or check your AIR record (if you have one)

If you've had any vaccinations in Australia (including from a previous visit), they're on the AIR. Sign in to myGov, link Medicare, open Immunisation history. We can walk you through this in person if myGov is new to you.

  3. 3

Bring your overseas records to us

Originals or printouts. Yellow cards, government health portal printouts, GP letters, school certificates. We review each entry against the Australian Immunisation Handbook. Verified doses go onto your AIR record (separate $25 upload service); doses we can't verify, or that are missing, get added to a catch-up plan.

  4. 4

Complete the catch-up at the pharmacy

For adults and children aged 5 and over, we administer the missing doses across one or more appointments and submit each to the AIR within 24 hours. For children under 5 we refer you to your GP or the Brimbank Council immunisation service — that's outside pharmacist scope.

Free programs

Free vaccines you may already qualify for

  • Free MMR catch-up for adults aged 20–59 in Victoria — no Medicare card required, runs to 30 June 2027. More on MMR catch-up.
  • Free pregnancy vaccines (influenza, whooping cough dTpa, maternal RSV) for eligible pregnant patients. More on pregnancy vaccinations.
  • Free NIP catch-up for children aged 5+ — bring whatever record you have. More on children's vaccinations.
  • Free flu vaccine for at-risk groups (over 65, chronic conditions, pregnant, ATSI from 6 months).
  • Free shingles vaccine for adults 65+ and immunocompromised 18+.

Verified upload of overseas vaccinations to the AIR

For $25 per appointment we can verify your overseas immunisation record and submit the doses to the Australian Immunisation Register. After upload, you can download an Immunisation History Statement via myGov for school enrolment, university, employment or Family Tax Benefit purposes. Full process, including what to bring and which doses we can / can't verify, is on the dedicated service page.

Common questions

FAQs from new arrivals

I just arrived — what do I need first?

Two things: (1) work out what AIR record you have (or don't), and (2) bring whatever overseas vaccination records you have to us so we can review them. From there, the plan is either catch-up doses, AIR upload of verified overseas doses ($25 per appointment), or both.

I don't have a Medicare card. Can I still get vaccinated?

Yes. Vaccinations are available to anyone in Australia regardless of visa or residency status. Without Medicare you pay the private price for the vaccine plus the standard $20 administration fee. Free programs (like Victorian MMR catch-up for adults 20–59) are eligibility-based, not Medicare-based — you qualify if you fit the criteria.

I don't have an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). What do I do?

An IHI is a unique 16-digit number Services Australia uses to identify you in the national healthcare systems including the AIR. Without it, vaccinations can't be linked to a national record. Apply for free via Services Australia (phone 1300 361 457, online via myGov, or in person at a Services Australia centre). Sunshine and Footscray both have Services Australia centres nearby.

My children need vaccinations for school enrolment. Can you help?

For children aged 5 and over, yes — we can administer NIP catch-up doses and submit them to the AIR. For children under 5, see your GP or the Brimbank City Council immunisation service (we are out of scope for under-5s). The AIR Immunisation History Statement is the proof you need for No Jab No Play (ECEC) and school enrolment.

What overseas vaccination records do I need to bring?

Bring whatever you have — yellow card, government health portal printout, GP letter, school certificate. Originals where possible (we can take a photo). For digital records, print them out before coming. We compare each entry against the Australian Immunisation Handbook to confirm which Australian vaccine equivalent it matches.

My records aren't in English. Is that a problem?

Not always — we can read records in many languages, particularly Vietnamese, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Greek, Macedonian, Albanian, Bosnian, Somali, Bengali and Filipino, or work with TIS National (131 450) for free interpreter support. If we can't reliably verify the entries (e.g. illegible handwritten records), we may need to ask for a translation or repeat the vaccinations.

How much does the AIR upload cost?

$25 per appointment, regardless of how many doses we record. Once on the AIR, you can download an Immunisation History Statement instantly via myGov — accepted by schools, universities, employers and Family Tax Benefit assessments.

Am I eligible for any free vaccines?

Several free programs apply regardless of Medicare or visa: free MMR catch-up for adults aged 20–59 (Victorian state program, runs to 30 June 2027); free vaccines for pregnant patients (influenza, dTpa, RSV); free NIP-funded vaccines for children aged 5+ on catch-up; and free vaccines for various medical-risk groups. Bring your details to the appointment and we'll confirm eligibility.
