Vaccinated overseas? We'll add it to your AIR record.
The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) is the national record of every vaccination administered in Australia. As pharmacist immunisers we're also authorised to record vaccinations administered overseas once we've verified the original record.
The fee is $25 per appointment, regardless of how many doses we upload. Once on the AIR, you can download an Immunisation History Statement instantly via myGov — accepted by schools, employers, universities and Family Tax Benefit assessments.
How the AIR upload works
- 1
Bring your records
Original immunisation card, government health-portal printout, or doctor’s letter — printed copies are fine for digital records.
- 2
We verify the entries
The pharmacist immuniser checks each dose against the Australian Immunisation Handbook to confirm it matches a TGA-registered vaccine equivalent.
- 3
We submit to the AIR
Verified doses are submitted under your IHI or Medicare number. You receive a printed confirmation on the day.
- 4
You download proof
Within 24 hours your Immunisation History Statement is available on myGov — ready for school enrolment, work or travel.
Doses we cannot verify (illegible records, vaccines not registered in Australia, missing dates) cannot be uploaded. We'll flag these on the day and explain whether a top-up dose or serology testing is the right next step.
No Medicare? No problem.
Vaccinations are available to everyone in Australia, regardless of visa, residency or healthcare-cover status. International students, working-visa holders, asylum seekers, tourists and recently arrived permanent residents all walk into our clinic.
Without Medicare you pay the standard private price for the vaccine plus the standard $20 service fee. The full price list is on the pricing page.
Common situations we see
- International students arriving for the academic year who need MMR proof for university enrolment.
- Working-visa holders whose employer requires proof of hepatitis B vaccination.
- Recently arrived permanent residents catching up on missed childhood vaccinations.
- Asylum seekers and refugees who need their existing overseas record formally documented.
- Visiting family from overseas who want a flu shot during a southern-hemisphere winter visit.
- Australian expats returning home and bringing partners who don't yet have Medicare.
How to get an IHI number
An Individual Healthcare Identifier is a unique 16-digit number assigned to every person in Australia who receives healthcare. It links you to the AIR (and other national healthcare systems) when you don't have a Medicare number. The IHI is free, issued by Services Australia, and usually arrives within 5 working days.
1
Phone Services Australia
Call 1300 361 457 — the IHI line is staffed Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Have your passport and visa documentation ready.
2
Visit a Services Australia centre
The closest centres to Sunshine are Footscray (104 Hopkins St) and Sunshine (corner of Hampshire and Devonshire Roads). Bring your passport and visa.
3
Apply via myGov
If you already have a myGov account linked to another service, you may be able to apply online via the My Health Record service.
Don't have an IHI yet? Get vaccinated anyway.
We'll administer your vaccination on the day, give you a printed paper record, and submit the dose to the AIR retrospectively once your IHI arrives. Bring the IHI confirmation back to the pharmacy and we'll upload free of additional charge if it's within 90 days of the appointment.

FAQs about overseas vaccinations & AIR upload
I had my childhood vaccinations overseas. Can you add them to my Australian record?
Yes. If you bring the original immunisation record (a yellow card, schedule, or government health portal printout), we can verify the entries and submit them to the Australian Immunisation Register. The fee for this service is $25 per appointment, regardless of how many doses we record. Once your record is on the AIR, you can access it at any time via myGov.
I don't have a Medicare card. Can I still get vaccinated?
Yes. Vaccinations are available to anyone in Australia regardless of visa or residency status. Without a Medicare card you pay the standard private price for the vaccine plus the standard service fee. International students, working-visa holders and recent permanent residents can all walk in.
I don't have a Medicare card or an IHI. Can my vaccination still be recorded on the AIR?
Not initially — the AIR requires either a Medicare number or an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) to associate the dose with a person. We will administer the vaccine on the day, give you a paper record, and walk you through the IHI application process so we can submit the record to the AIR once your IHI is issued.
How do I get an IHI number?
You can apply for an Individual Healthcare Identifier through Services Australia by phoning 1300 361 457, by visiting a Services Australia centre in person, or in some circumstances through a healthcare provider. The IHI is free of charge and is usually issued within 5 working days. We are happy to direct you to the nearest Services Australia office and explain what documentation you need to bring.
Why would I want my overseas vaccinations on the AIR?
Several reasons. (1) The Family Tax Benefit Part A supplement requires children to be up-to-date on the AIR. (2) Victoria's No Jab No Play rule requires AIR documentation to enrol a child in childcare or kindergarten. (3) Many workplaces and universities require AIR-based proof of immunity. (4) Travelling overseas yourself? An Immunisation History Statement from the AIR is the simplest international proof of vaccination.
What documents do I need to bring?
For a standard vaccination: photo ID and any previous immunisation record you have. For overseas-vaccination AIR upload: bring the original record (printed if it is a digital one), photo ID, and your IHI or Medicare number if you have one. For IHI applications, bring your passport and visa documentation.
