Acknowledgement of Country
Immunisation Hub acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which we deliver care. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live, work, study and visit the lands across Brimbank and the wider western suburbs of Melbourne. Sovereignty was never ceded; this always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
An acknowledgement is not a destination — it is a daily practice. We commit to delivering culturally safe vaccination services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, to clearly highlighting the National Immunisation Program entitlements that apply from younger ages (influenza from 6 months, pneumococcal from 50, shingles from 50), and to listening carefully when Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations share what works and what doesn't.
We thank the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) for the leadership they provide on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and we encourage anyone needing culturally specific primary care to consider their services alongside ours.
The Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation is the registered Aboriginal party for the area in which Sunshine sits. To learn more about the traditional custodians of this Country, visit the Wurundjeri Council or AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia.
